A carpetbag is a small piece of luggage that was used in the mid 1800's. It was carried by Abe Lincoln and Rhett Butler,but was made famous by Mary Poppins. The bags were prevalent on the American scene for about 3 decades. Today, the carpetbag is back! It has proven itself to be a classic time traveler more dashing than ever!

Because of the time and labor required to make each bag, only the heaviest and most beautiful tapestry fabric is chosen . Since it is expensive tapestry, the artisan keeps the price down by buying the short lengths at the end of the roll.

The carpetbag as shown was actually stuffed before it was photographed. Because this is a fabric carpetbag, there are no integral cardboard or plastic stiffeners to make it stand up on its own as is seen in hardside luggage. In most cases this soft bag is very appropriate for use as a carry on since it can usually be molded to fit into any limited space where it is placed. Four 7 x 10 inch sized pockets have been sewn into the lining. The bag will fold flat for storage.
